FMS vs BLACKIMS - My take
First things first, know that generally people rank and agree that, ABC > FMS ~ L > K ~ M > I. That's the TLDR too. But that's not all black and white. First if you have more than 2 converts of this, congrats.
Shillong over any New IIMs, you wouldn't want other's advice on this probably. But it goes head on head on IIFT, MDI. I'd rate IIFT > MDI ~ S - but each to their own, so choose basis your own preferences.
Now, Indore has been on a downhill compared to other BLACKI schools, but it won't go below S in foreseeable future. But this should be your last choice among BLACKIM, generally.
Mumbai, even when it was NITIE, was considered at par with KI, now above I and at par with K. If SM / OPS is your target, happily skip K over M.
Kozhikode, imho, is the fastest growing BLACKI school and has done tremendously well in the recent past. But takes a L when comes to Lucknow, though and I don't see status quo changing anytime soon.
Lucknow, people call it HELL for a reason, the rigor of L in academics is only behind A among BLACKIMS. And only behind ABC and many T1 companies consider it as ABCL. Now, you have FMS and L both? I'd address this next.
FMS, the beast of ROI. People leave ABCLK for FMS, now that tells you what it has to offer. For me, I'd join FMS in a bad economy, as the current economy, over all BLACK and join BLACK over FMS in a very good economy, say post covid. (Hope you got the point)
ABC - Now it all boils down to the preferences. You wouldn't see people with A calls join B/C now, mostly. But I have heard of such stories personally back in 2010s when there was only BLACKIMS. Go with A if you don't have any preferences or have consulting in mind, C if you have Finance in mind, B if you have ProdMan in mind. Cheers.
New and Baby IIMs for me goes like this :
Udaipur ~ Trichy > Raipur > Ranchi > Kashipur > Rohtak ~ Nagpur ~ Vizag > All other Baby IIMs.
Again there are preferences like, in Finance T>U, for IT Kashipur > Raipur&Ranchi, in DEI hiring (favours girls, HRs come to this school, get their quota filled and go happily) Rohtak > All New IIMs.
Edit 1 - XLRI is similar to L, and SPJ is similar to K. And ISB 2yr course is too early to comment on. But for now, I'd keep it on par with I, just for the ISB brand.
But if you'e targetting marketing, then XL over IIML and for Ops, SPJ over IIMK. overall, I'd keep L ~ FMS (only in a good economy, else FMS > L) > XL > K > SPJ > M. some do XL over FMS; M, K over SPJ and what not, but each to their own.
Edit 2 - For similar level schools, go through the placement reports, look for the companies which recruit from the company for past 3 years for the domain you're targetting and decide. Deduct 10% from all numbers, be it median, average, SIP, etc as none of the reports are 100% true.
Edit 3 - Not much of an idea about IIT MBA, except for IITB/D. SJMSOM, I'd place above or at par with I. IITD just at par and can be a choice after IIM UTR, but is highly subjective.
