TikTok Protest?
Anybody know if there’s a protest over the TikTok ban happening anywhere today?
Edit: If you think this isn’t a big deal, you’re missing the point: a platform used by 170 million Americans—that’s like half the country—is being shut down because a tiny group of people wanted it gone. Think about that, 1 in 2 Americans use TikTok for entertainment, learning, community, and, for many, a livelihood. In 2023, small businesses using TikTok for advertising generated $14.7 billion in revenue and supported 224,000 jobs. Creators contributed billions more, many using that income to cover necessities or to squeak out a little disposable income, an absolute luxury for a lot of people these days. This wasn’t just an app—it was a community and critical lifeline and support system for countless people. And keep in mind, a huge portion of the content on FB, Insta, and Reddit—originated on TikTok.
And before you say, “but it had bipartisan support,” know that the TikTok ban wasn’t debated or voted on as its own issue. It was buried in a must-pass aid bill, forcing lawmakers to go along with it. That’s what had bipartisan support—not the ban itself. Our leaders didn’t speak up, and too many people—especially looking at folks that agree with the comments below—weren’t paying attention. Now we’re left with a dangerous precedent, one that chips away at free speech, economic opportunity, the integrity of how our laws are made, and what special interest lobbyists are using their power and financial influence to dictate the lives of Americans. That’s the real problem here—and it’s going to be ALL of our problem, whether you understand it or not.
