Why does everyone in game hate Wyll for his choices?

So Wyll didn't sell his soul back to the devil for Eternity just so that in this one instance they release his aging father. Everyone thinks he's a monster. Lots of in game comments, and barely a sympathetic reply option. What parent wants their kid to sell their soul to the devil A SECOND TIME so they can get another 10 years?! Everyone is acting like Wyll killed him!
