Is an independant research helpful?

Would doing an independant research help a lot ?

This isnt one of those typical researches on like books or random stuff fyi

I work in a dental clinic and the boss is pretty chill with me, so i have a lot of leeway to basically expirement with whatever i want. I already have an idea in mind though, but the thing is, is this even impactful enough to an admissions officer to the point where i should spend months working on it ?
