How would you split colleges into tiers?

I see a lot on rankings on this sub but sometimes I feel like it’s almost a disservice to be trying to differentiate between, say, Yale and Princeton, when grouping them into tiers might be more effective. This is probably how I’d tier some well known colleges (the universities within each tier are in no particular order) but I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions on tiering vs ranking and my list in general!

Tier 1 - Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, MIT

Tier 2a - Caltech, Columbia, Penn, Brown, Duke, JHU, UChicago

Tier 2b- Northwestern, Dartmouth, Cornell, UC Berkeley

Tier 3a - UC Berkeley, UCLA

Tier 3b - WashU, Rice, Emory, Vanderbilt, CMU, UMich, Georgetown

I’m stopping here because even though there are so many great universities I haven’t mentioned I feel like beyond this point my own personal knowledge of them definitely drops off. There are probably a few which I’ve forgotten that should be up there but I just did this in a couple minutes lol

*Edit: UCB and UCLA moved up one
